It is with great sadness that I heard of the passing away of my former colleague, Prof. Pierre Berest, who was the Director of the Laboratoire de Mecanique des Solides (Ecole Polytechnique) during the years I spent there.
Pierre was an accomplished scientist and a true gentleman as well as a very kind person. He will be missed!
