Today, we went for a sea trial of a new concept of vessel, joint collaboration between Prof. N. Drimer (designer), B. Danino (Sela – Industries, constructor) and the Materials Mechanics Center, together with Oren Rijensky, graduate student (DFL). Our contribution was the investigation of wave-slamming on polymer coated aluminum alloy plates, to determine the resistance of those structural elements to hydrodynamic impacts. It is extremely rewarding to see a concept that materializes and a vessel that does not disintegrate when you reach 32 knots…..Technion-Mech. Eng.: We know to think out of the box!
